5 points for each mile traveled

100 Points for a picture of travel bug on a boat, ship, car or plane built between 1939 and 1959

100 points for a picture of travel bug in front of a military base.

100 points for a metal sign containing the name Chesser, Crane, Dickson, Nielsen or Schmitt.

250 points per geocacher for a picture of travel bug with any WWII veteran.

500 points per game if a travel bug lands in a geocache anywhere in Iowa, Ohio,Utah,Mass,Nevada,or California.

500 points per game if a travel bug lands in a geocache in Iowa City,Cedar Rapids,Cleveland,Salt Lake, Provo, San Jose, Los Gatos,Solon, Sparks,Reno,Boston or San Diego.

100 Points for picture of travel bug and geocacher who found it.

100 points for a picture of travel bug on any vinyl album produced between 1939 and 1959.

250 points to the travel bug that is in last place at the end of each month.

The following rules will govern the awarding of points:

1. Geocacher cannot earn more than 350 points per travel bug. Miles traveled are not counted towards the 350 points, neither are the 500 points for landing in a City or State. The idea is participation and to keep the bugs moving

1a. Only one leg of travel will be counted per geocacher. For example, if a TB is picked up in Boston by a geocacher and is dropped off in New York the points awarded will be 500 (5 points X 100 miles.) The Geocacher cannot then earn any more MILE points for picking the same TB up in New York and taking it a second leg back to Boston (or anywhere else for that matter). Gamemaster will only give credit for the first leg of travel. The idea is participation and to keep the bugs moving.

2. A single photo can earn points in more than one category. For example, if a geocacher take a picture of himself with the travel bug in front of a military base than the picture is worth 200 points (100 for picture with geocacher and 100 for military base).

3. A Geocacher can help out as many travel bugs in the race as they want. However the rule of capping total points per TB at 350 (not including miles and state bonues) still remains in effect.

3a. Geocachers may use the same picture subjects for different travel bugs. For example, if a geocacher takes a picture of one TB in the hands of a WWII Vet for 250 points he can later earn 250 points for a different TB for having its picture taken in the hands of the same vet.

4. The boat, ship, car or plane built between 1939 and 1959 must be an actual piece of machinery (i.e no model airplanes, no matchbox cars no pictures of trains etc.)

4a. Said modes of transportation must be identifiable as era pieces. For example if a TB is photographed on a rusty old frame and no one can see that it is an era piece than the photograph will be disqualified.

5. The term "military base" is self explanatory. It would be nice if the name of the base is in the picture somewhere. Military base can be active or in-active and can include armories, firing ranges, boot camps etc.

6. Family names must be on real sign. No more bars of soap or articles of clothing.

7. For the WWII Vet this is an honor code award. We'd hate to have pics of old geezers that were never vets. Anything suspicious will be put before the family for a vote. Points can only be awarded once per geocacher per TB.

8. For both the state and city points, it is not mandatory for the bug to spend the night. Simply landing in a geocache counts for points. However, you can only collect a particular state or city point once per game. Example, if a travel bug lands in Nebraska, goes to Iowa (500 points) then to Missouri and then back to Iowa, no additional points are awarded beyond the intitial 500 points for landing in Iowa. The idea of this race is participation and to keep the TB’s moving

8a. No one receive will receive points for releasing their TB in their home State and City. Example, Logan gets no points for releasing his TB in Cedar Rapids, IA. However, he can earn a one time per game 500 points if his TB makes it into a geocache in Iowa City. He cannot earn any State points.

8b. Suburbs of cities can count towards the one time per game 500 points so long as it is within 5 miles of the city. For example if a TB lands in Coralville the 1X500 points are awarded since Coralville is within 5 miles of Iowa City. Kalona would not count as a suburb of Iowa City.

9. TB points for pictures on a vinyl album are self explanatory. CD’s do not count.

10. Disputes on awarding points: Gamemaster will try to error on the side of the geo-cacher. Any disputes for points awarded will be put to a family vote via email. If you don’t respond you lose and a simple majority will carry the day. Remember, while the game is a spectator sport for us, we need to reward those geocachers who put forth a good faith effort
