February 2005 Update

Congratulations to Sputnik which won the Nielsen Family Travel Bug Race. From last to first place here are the results as described by the Salt Lake Nielsen's who planned and put together the race. A new race with all new travel bugs is in the planning stages and we'll be sure to put the details here as soon as it starts.

7th Place 2000 points...EASY RIDER! The ride must have been really easy because ER managed to rack up NO MILES and NO PICTURES but did benefit from the end of month bonuses. I think we should give Easy Rider Mom and Dad the diaper cheer "ooooOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH CRAP!"

6th Place 4,376 points... Lil General! Too bad this race couldn't go on another year because Lil General has been making tracks recently. At last tally, the General had been traveling the wintery cold states of Minnesota and Wisconsin, but it wasn't enough to catch the pack.. How about a Carlos O'Kelly's cheer for Logan and Crew! "NooooOOOOOOO TACO BRAVO FOR YOU!"

5th Place 8,550 points... R2D2! Maybe the R2D2 wheels slowed this little fellah down. At one point it looked like this one could make up some positions but it still just lumbered along. Still, it got twice the points of the Lil General and four times the points of Easy Rider. How about a Star Wars cheer for Whitters " Wookie wookie WOOKIE"

4th Place 9,386 points... BIG BOOTIE Not too bad of a showing really. The "Bootie" got stuck in Colorado for a few months before it got hauled away to the Great Midwest. Maybe the Dicksons should have tied up the shoe laces so that it could go further and maybe faster. How about a Big Bootie cheer for Allen and Reagan "YeeeeEEEEER KICKIN MY BUTT, BOOTIE!"

3rd Place 9,886 points ... Kung Fu Elvis. Some twerpie kid in Denver broke Elvis's kung fu action chop from which Elvis never fully recovered. However, a final picture and one push from a kind Geocacher sent Kung Fu Elvis flying past Big Bootie for 3rd place. How about a big Karate cheer for Kung Fu Elvis "FoooooOOOOOOO MAN CHEW THIS!"

2nd Place 35, 231 points... License to Elvis. This truely is one of the most heartbreaking losses in family history. Under Rule #2 in the rules book, only the FIRST LEG counts for points if the same Geocacher keeps picking up and dropping off the travel bug. Well the Cranes lost over 72,000 points because their geo-cacher kept taking the travel bug with him wherever he went including TWO TRIPs to BOTH Coasts of the United States and a fast fling to ICELAND and back! Talk about dedication! But alas, the rules are the rules and we begrudgingly take back those points.

Grand Price Winner 40,495 points... SPUTNIK! I don't know about you, but it makes me feel VERY patriotic to know that a Russian Spaceship beat the holy crap out of all of us. This thing found friends who took it on a cruise to the Bahamas and back. With an early lead it pretty much coasted from July to the end. As a matter of fact it hasn't moved in the last 3-4 months. Still, I think we owe Danika and her little Soviet Travel Bug a big Russian cherr "Niet NIET NIET"

As game masters we will be sending Danika the Grand Prize gift of a portable DVD player and some CD's for her glorious victory over the rest of us. In addition, she is crowned Travel Bugel...Travel Bugglier, Travel Bug Queen of the 2004 Nielsen Family Fued and pass on the torch to her for organizing the theme for the next race "USA is A-OK.... AMER? I CAN!" the subsequent rules, as well as ordering the travel bugs and dispersment. It was a fun race and I hope that you had a fun time. And Easy Rider, wherever you are, live to ride and ride to live!

June 2004 Update

As the summer begins, we are stunned to see that Sputnik is basically kicking the stuffing out of all competitors. If anyone is going to make a move for first place it will need to happen soon. Sputnik has logged over 4,000 miles in the last three months alone. License to Elvis unseated Big Bootie for second place with strong performances from Geocachers in the greater Boston area. The trip into Massachusetts earned License 500 bonus points, and by landing in Boston added another 500 bonus points. It's the first time that the bonus points have been awarded in the game. Kung Fu Elvis slipped quietly from medal contention into 4th place. Lil General appears on the points board this month with over 1,000 points. And last but not least, R2D2 and Easy Rider find themselves bringing up the rear. With warmer temperatures and summer travel plans we expect everyone to jockey for new positions this month!

Current Standings:

1st place: Sputnik 21,180
2nd: License to Elvis 5,145
3rd: Big Bootie 2,736
4th: Kung Fu Elvis 2,591
5th: Lil General 1,040
6th: R2D2 920
7th: Easy Rider 500
